Moon rock - Moon rocks currently consist of 382 kg (842 lb) of rocks and other samples collected during the Apollo program missions to the Moon. Six Apollo landings occurred, and during the surface excursions 2,415 samples were taken, the majority by Apollo 15, 16, and 17.
Apollo 15 - Apollo 15 was the ninth manned mission in the Apollo program and the fourth mission to land on the Moon. It was the first of what were termed J missions — long duration stays on the Moon with a greater focus on science than had been on previous missions.
