Nuclear medicine - Nuclear medicine is a branch of medicine and medical imaging that uses unsealed radioactive substances in diagnosis and therapy. These substances consist of radionuclides, or pharmaceuticals that have been labelled with radionuclides (radiopharmaceuticals).
Hot particle - A hot particle is a small, highly radioactive object, with significant content of radionuclides. Hot particles are usually released into the environment during a nuclear accident or when high-level radioactive waste is improperly handled, and are the principal hazard of the nuclear fallout from nuclear explosions.
Dose calibrator - A dose calibrator (radioisotope calibrator) is a device used in radiological research that measures the total energy of a radionuclide in units of Curies (Ci) or millicuries (mCi). It consists of a hollow, lead shielded cylinder, in which samples of radionuclides are lowered for measurement.
