Irish Champion Stakes - The Irish Champion Stakes is a Group 1 flat racing horse race for three year old and above horses run over a distance of 1 mile and 2 furlongs (2012 m) at Leopardstown racecourse in Ireland during September. The race is on the same day as the English St Leger, and is a very high quality race.
James Champion - James Champion (VC, MSM) was an English recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
Dymoke - Dymoke, the name of an English family holding the office of king's champion. The functions of the champion were to ride into Westminster Hall at the coronation banquet, and challenge all comers to impugn the kings title (see Champion).
Independent (religion) - In English church history, Independents advocated local congregational control of religious and church matters, without any wider geographical hierarchy, either ecclesiastical or political. Independents reached particular prominence between 1642 and 1660, in the period of the English Civil War and of the Commonwealth and Protectorate, wherein the Parliamentary Army became the champion of Independent religious views against the Anglicanism or the Catholicism of Royalists and the Presbyterianism favoured by Parliament itself.
